Fragments of Inspiration: Books {on the universality of art}

"Illusory universality is the universality of the art of the culture industry, it is the universality of the homogeneous same, an art which no longer even promises happiness but only provides easy amusement as relief from labour."

 [The Culture Industry, by Theodor W. Adorno]

Fragments of Inspiration: Words {a new beginning}

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.

~ F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

***

I am having the familiar conviction that life is beginning over again with the coming of the new year. I always found changes exciting and charming. I always loved new beginnings. I am exciting for the days to come.

Fragments of Inspiration: Music {nightbook}

Every human being is a collection of selves.
Life is the combination of good luck, and bad luck.
And every life is both ordinary, and extraordinary.

Fragments of Inspiration: Music {crepuscolo sul mare}

I was listening to this piece of music, yesterday, on the train, on my way back home.

I spent my evening in London, in one of my favourite places ever. Certainly a very memorable place. A place I love going back to, every now and then. I had missed it. I had missed Southbank Centre. I had missed the Thames. And I was there... walking around... taking photographs with my Minolta, trying to imagine how my photographs will look when they are developed. I listened to words of poetry and I looked outside the windows - I could see my heart being somewhere out there, in the streets of London, somewhere among the tall, beautiful, buildings. I could feel my thoughts flying in the sky, like birds. I was free. For a moment, I was completely, absolutely, free - to be whatever I wanted, whoever I wanted. A poet... leading a charming, intellectual, life. Travelling Britain, and the world.

I was there - in Southbank Centre. Music in my ears, and the taste of elderflower. People around me, and my book in my hands. Thoughts in my mind, and ideas in my heart. What if the same thing were to happen again? Going back, two years ago. But no - beautiful things do not repeat themselves. Not in the same way, not when or how we want them too. It may seem that life repeats itself every now and then, but... no... it does not. Everything is different, because we are different. Every day that passes, we become a little bit different.

I would not know what I want now... I can find out later... without even thinking about it, without even trying...

Fragments of Inspiration: Music {romeo and juliet}

A song I remember listening to for the first time years ago - one of my father's cds. I love his taste in music - I love everything about him, to be precise. Images come to my mind - they come and go. Words... song lyrics - words that I want to write down, so I will never forget them. Emotions - I feel overwhelmed by them. Emotions... of different shades - some of them are mild, some of them more powerful. Songs on the radio - it seems like each one of them brings back a memory, brings out a sentiment in my heart. Memories - so valuable, so necessary.

People I met, things I did... fragments of my life that come and go...
My mind is filled with images... sounds... faces... smiles... emotive moments... happiness...

It's raining outside...
A window to the world... a window to my soul... a window to someone's soul, through which I want to see...

It's summer, but the weather resembles autumn. It happened before, a few years ago... I can remember it. This could well mean something - maybe my heart feels more like autumn, than summer. I feel a sweet melancholy in my heart and soul...

I am wearing pink - I am drinking green tea - I am listening to the radio, smiling - and I do feel like crying...

Fragments of Inspiration: Words {art}

"A good painting to me has always been like a friend. It keeps me company, comforts and inspires."
~Hedy Lamarr

One of my favourite painters - Mark Rothko - and one of his most beautiful paintings - White Centre.

Fragments of Inspiration: Music {stray}

... there's a flower that grows in a cave
so lovely to see but need not be saved
its beautiful blossom will wither and die
if ever this flower leave the darkness for daylight...

...there is something about some days of your life
something different - a different sense, a bitter-sweet taste
feeling a bit melancholic - diving into memories
thinking about your past
smiling
having butterflies in your stomach
organising your present
trying to make the best out of your every day
dreaming about the future
hoping that nothing will be taken away from you
ever again...

Fragments of Inspiration: Music {dance with my own shadow}

When I got home, I began to dance. The sound of a band carried me away. I tore the wall apart and found myself out on the streets garish with nightmarish colours. And the bands beat out the rhythms frantically, as I disappeared in Time alone, desolate, enigmatic - disappearing through the place I'd come from, leaving behind me an everlasting smile for human beings to remember. For no one will ever know if I really came, if I really went and if I ever really existed in their midst by chance.

-Manos Hadjidakis

Fragments of Inspiration: Words {lyrics*love}

Now that you are
in this land of dreams
sing a song of love
with the breeze

No words to say
what I feel today
sun is bright
and clouds went away

La la la - La la la
since I found my love in your eyes

Walking by your side
never comes a night
and no rain
will enter my heart

When you smile at me
anyone can see
that with you
a new life will start

Birds are flying in the sky
and my heart wants to fly
no more tears, no more sighs
since I found my love in your eyes
